Five Vail Place Members will exhibit original artwork as part of Water’s Edge, a new art show opening April 9th at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska. Members Martha B., Andrew B., Pete H., Kandace K., and James S. have joined 10 other artists in the show   Vail Place Member Martha B. also has the honor of curating the show, which also features her basketweaving work.

Water’s Edge runs through May 31st, 2017. The art show is inspired by the theme of Minnesota’s land of 10,000 lakes and “features art that evokes a unique yet collective experience of a sense of place that reflects on water, our precious resource,” according to representatives from Spectrum ArtWorks.

All 15 artists exhibiting in the new show are part of a collective supported by Spectrum ArtWorks, a program of RESOURCE that has been working to support professional artists living with mental illness since 2004. Artists in this group are dedicated and committed to strengthening their professional artist skills and goals. Together they organize to create art in community and challenge stigmas related to mental illness.

“I know my own struggles with maintaining my mental health recovery and what things can help that venture. I want to bring that healing experience to other people…art, time out in nature, gathering with people and sharing a common experience. We will do that on Saturday,  April 29th at this artist show and reception. I hope you will come join me and put beauty in your eyes for the afternoon,” said show curator Martha Bird.

There will be a reception on April 29th at the Arboretum from 1-3:30pm. The program includes light snacks in the Tea Room and musical entertainment from Andrew Turpening.
