Vail Place Remembers 2018

Vail Place Remembers 2018

“I just want to give a huge thanks. I have learned so much and have grown in my mental abilities for the better. Of course life will still be difficult at times. Now though, I am more equipped to tolerate these oncoming obstacles I figure!” – Bob, Clubhouse member
Just as Bob has become “more equipped” to overcome obstacles because of Vail Place, Vail Place is more equipped to overcome obstacles because of YOU and our growing number of community connections.
There have been challenges as we started new programs and, at the same time, were informed that we no longer met funding guidelines from long-time partners such as the United Way, a partner since 1983.   But we’ve learned a lot and, like Bob, we’re now better equipped to succeed in the future.
One of the more important things we learned was that YOU respond so generously to our appeals for support. (Okay, we already knew that.) But it has been incredibly heartwarming to experience the depth of your assistance, caring and understanding, especially in this past year.
We also continue to learn about community outreach and how to do it effectively, including where and how to build critical community partnerships. These partnerships increase our capacity to serve more people and serve them more effectively, like:
  • Our partnership with Hennepin County to provide person-centered Case Management services that support individuals in their mental health recovery.
  • Our growing achievements with North Memorial Health programs that provide comprehensive behavioral health care and social supports with impressive outcomes.
  • Our status with Clubhouse International as an Accredited Clubhouse meeting the 37 standards verifying that our Hopkins and Uptown Clubhouses are among the most effective in the nation. (Just ask Bob and members like him.)
  • Our new initiative partnering with local police departments to develop a model to reduce mental health-related 911 calls and divert people with mental health crises to the appropriate care with follow-up services. (Instead of sending them to jail.)
It is thanks to YOU as well as thanks to our incredible staff and Board, and our growing network of community connections, that Vail Place has stability in changing times and can continue to focus on meeting the needs of people we serve like Bob.
Once again, thanks to YOU, Bob and his friends will be “more equipped” for their future!
