09 Mar Vail Place Receives $10,000 Grant from TCF Foundation
Vail Place has received a $10,000 grant from the TCF Foundation, renewing its partnership with our organization. The award will be used to further the mission of Vail Place, which is to help people with serious mental illnesses avoid crisis, achieve stability, and pursue active, fulfilling lives based on their individual abilities. Roger Sorensen, Senior Vice President for TCF Bank, has been a Vail Place Board Member for the past five years.
“The long-time support of the TCF Foundation has helped countless Vail Place members work to recover from serious mental illnesses and develop self-sufficiency,” said Stefano Loverso, Vail Place Director of External Affairs. “The renewal of this valued partnership will help us continue to make a real difference in the health of our community.”
Vail Place programs have realized significant improvements in the lives of those with serious mental illness including fewer hospitalizations, and increased employment opportunities. Vail Place reported that in 2015 87 percent of individuals receiving Vail Place Case Management services avoided hospitalization, while 100 percent of members who found housing kept it for at least 6 months. In addition, 83 percent of program participants worked at least 60 days.
“Studies repeatedly show that providing preventative, community-based mental health services results in greatly reduced public costs as well as benefits to the individual,” said Vicky Couillard, Vail Place Executive Director. “With their continued support, the TCF Foundation is not only helping individuals with serious mental illness lead purposeful lives, they are contributing to the overall economic health of the community.”
TCF Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations actively supported by TCF team members through volunteerism or service on nonprofit boards and committees. TCF matches team member donations to nonprofit organizations dollar for dollar, supports team member fundraising efforts, and provides funds that TCF Bank branches donate to nonprofit organizations in their communities.
