Mental Health on the Hill Day March 31st

Mental Health on the Hill Day March 31st

Visit with Minnesota legislators and make your voice heard on Thursday, March 31st at Mental Health Day on the Hill 2016. Last year’s Mental Health Day helped lead Minnesota to a record-breaking $50 million dollars in new funding for mental health issues. With your help, 2016 can be another success story.

The Vail Place Minneapolis Clubhouse is a pick-up/drop-off site for bus rides to the event. The bus will depart the Minneapolis Clubhouse at 8:45am and groups from each Clubhouse will attend the rally. Vail Place members can sign up for a van ride at the Clubhouses.

A briefing and rally will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Cedar Street Armory at 600 Cedar St., St. Paul. Following the rally, the Minnesota Clubhouse coalition, led by Vail Place, will meet in the cafeteria of the Centennial office building.for a brown bag lunch gathering.

From 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., state legislators will be meeting with individuals and groups. Vail Place will be meeting with several legislators including Representative Youakmi (1:00pm), Speaker of the House Thissen (1:30pm), Senator Latz (2:30pm) and Senator Dibble (3:00pm).

Mental Health Day on the Hill has had a significant impact on the lives of those with mental illness and their families. In 2015, some of the key funding and grant increases included programs for suicide prevention with a focus on at-risk youth, help with housing for people suffering with mental health issues, care of children in need of treatment, and support for families. A few of the objectives this year include early intervention and multigenerational treatment, programs to provide training for staff and caregivers when treating children, medical treatment as a first step instead of arrest and entry into the correctional system, and the removal of barriers to proper treatment for individuals and families in need.

Mental Health Day on the Hill is sponsored by the Mental Health Legislative Network, a coalition of 37 organizations like Vail Place and NAMI Minnesota that advocate for accessible, quality mental health care in the state.

Join us at the capitol on March 31st to help make a difference in the lives of people with mental illness and their families. For more information, visit NAMI Minnesota and Mental Health Minnesota.
